Hi! My name is Anya and I’m a 9th grade student at Stanford Online High School (OHS).

Science is filled with incredibly beautiful concepts that help us understand the world around us. However memorizing thousands of scientific terms and related concepts can be overwhelming and intimidating for many people, even those pursuing higher education in STEM fields. As I started taking more advanced science courses at school, I realized that much of the seemingly complex scientific terminology can be broken down into Greek or Latin stems (or roots). Instead of having to memorize countless individual definitions, you only need to know some stems and be able to link them together to be able to decipher what they mean.

The aim of stems4STEM is to help students break down scientific words into their constituent stems to discover their meanings and dispel the intimidating aura of science.
